Mal has been guiding for 20 years and is deeply embedded in the nightlife and political communities of Berlin, including producing content for LSVD MILES and numerous queer and feminist orgs visiting or in the city. Upsi (she/her) works as a disabilities assistant-person and helps to facilitate organisation. We will always end somewhere with food, bars/clubs, and public transportation.
Language:
All tours offered in English and/or German. We will do single or dual-language depending on participation.
Queer Kreuzberg
Start Location:
In front of Südblock, Admiralstraße 1-2, 10999 Berlin. (view location)
Queer Kreuzberg (min. 2.5 hours) This one dives into the post-war period in Kreuzberg, queer refugees, migrants, and outsiders like Audre Lorde, Blixa Bargeld, and Rio Reiser. We will see Berlin’s most famous squat used as a queer refugium and for political organising. Some street art will be highlighted too.
Radical Prenzlauer Berg
Start Location:
Under the raised train line, on the south side of Konnopke's Imbiss Schönhauser Allee 44b, 10435 Berlin. (view location)
Radical Prenzlauer Berg (min. 2.5 hours) Prenzlauer Berg is known as a gentrified quarter. However, we will look for the radical contemporary that still exists. How resistances forged by alliances between punks and the church or Quakers and Jews set the foundations for the Tunten Haus project. And, Where a blind and deaf anarchist saved people from the Nazis and a policeman saved a Synagoge from the SS and NS-Fanatics.
Gay and Sapphic Schöneberg
Start Location:
Meets in front of Rose Winkel at Nollendorfplatz. (view location)
Gay and Sapphic Schöneberg (min. 2 hours) This tour covers Lotte Hahm who founded Germany’s first trans club in the 20s, the friendship and works of Erika Mann and Isherwood along with numerous other artists, as well as how the NS regime changed everything overnight.
Art Hotel Connection
Start Location:
In front of the Art Hotel Connection, Fuggerstraße 33, 10777 Berlin.
From this location the group chooses which tour we do that day. The possible tours depending on pay and participation are:
1. „Gay and Sapphic Schöneberg“ (min. 2 hours)
2. „Queer Kreuzberg“ (min. 2.5 hours)
3. „Radical Prenzlauer Berg“ (min. 2.5 hours)
Anticolonial Mitte
Start Location:
Near the Reichstag at the memorial to the Political Opponents of the NS. (view location)
Anticolonial Mitte (min. 3 hours) This tour takes an explicit look at the consequences of colonialism through memorialisation and the connections to contemporary queer politics. Over just the last decade much more acknowledgement has been given to queer and other genocides by the NS regime, but such violence did not begin with the Nazis and has its roots in all colonial cultures and the nation-state itself. We will confront these connections using the so-called 'historic district'.
KZ Sachsenhausen
Location:
We meet at street level on the north side of the Bösebrücke entrance to Bornholmer Str. S-Bahn. (view location) We end at the Memorial Information Centre. (view location)
The former concentration camp of Sachsenhausen (min. 4.5 hours) This tour has the distinction of being the only regular tour on offer in Berlin which takes an explicitly queer and anti-colonial gaze of the former KZ of Sachsenhausen.
Over just the last decade much more acknowledgement has been given to queer-targeted and other persecutions, imprisonments, and murders. Until recently, much information on various groups and individuals targeted by the NS was prevented from reaching the light of day by lack of funding, normative ignorance or even well-documented outright bigotry.
'Never Again' means everyone.
Adults without childcare are welcome, but please keep in mind the memorial and museum of the former KZ recommend the space for only 12 years old and up and some information and images could prove traumatic. Please contact us if you have any concerns.
Mal is a KZ Sachsenhausen Memorial certified guide.
Königsheide
Location:
We begin on Südostallee near the entrance of Kleingarten-KGA on Sudostallee. (view location)
My sibling the Königsheide forest (2,5 hours) What is your relationship to the forest? Do you bathe in it, hunt, gather, build or walk your dog in it? What if you could have a real relationship to the forest, like it was your sibling? Not just a place you did things? As part of this tour, we will learn about sustainable, playful and engaging things we can do to repair Königsheide, one of the most negatively impacted forests in Berlin. By the end of the tour, you will see the forest, especially Königsheide in a completely different light.
Bring work-gloves to handle wood, water-protected shoes and prepare for the weather!
Mal is a Stiftung Naturschutz Berlin certified nature guide (ZNL) that has been guiding for 20 years.
Plänterwald
Location:
We begin at the Plänterwald entrance at the corner of Bulgarische Str. & Neue Krugallee. (view location)
Children's Ecology or Pilzchen in Plänterwald (1,5 hours) What do mushrooms and kids have in common? They both belong in the forest! But, they can also both help or hurt the forest.
On this very short tour with games and exploration, children and their adults will discover how to play in the Plänterwald without hurting it and without fear.
It is recommended for the adults to bring work gloves for handling wood. All should have waterproof shoes and be prepared for the weather!

Köpenicker Forst
Location:
We begin on the north-east side of the intersection of Wassersportallee and Adlergestell near the Grunau S-Bahn. (view location) We end near Lehrkabinett Teufelsee in the east very near public transport on Müggelheimer Damm. (view location)
Culture in Köpenicker Forst (4,5 hours) cultural use of the forest is older than Humans; Homo Erectus were here much longer than humans.
What was everyone doing in the forests for millions of years?
For this tour we focus on Köpenicker Forst and look at different experiences of the forest over the last few million years. we will give special attention to mushrooms where possible. Rain is our friend when it comes to mushrooms. We will have a break at the Schmetterlingshorst.
Bring work-gloves to handle wood, water-protected shoes and prepare for the weather!
