The two works I exhibited at Berl-in-out span my time living in Berlin. Both reflect on the city's character, one of strong community, strong contradictory forces and strong resistance. Since the Berliner Unwillen in 1440, to the 1953 uprising through this year's victorious Tempelhofer Freiheit Volksentscheid, the city's population has a long tradition of opposing authority. My new work ...verdammt dazu, ewig zu werden, niemals zu sein... titled after Scheffler's 1910 quote, comments on the relevance of this statement in 2014. One must laugh at the prospect that a foreign journalist could declare Berlin 'over' (this exhibition was a response by Berlin's own creative community, to this article), a city that has been known for its continuous renewal for more than 500 years.
